Intellectual Freedom: It’s Global; It’s Local
The library enterprise reaches around the world. It is a donkey with a book pack in Kenya. It is a 3D printing service in Chicago’s Loop. It is a profession of people who are passionate about their work—who must think globally and act locally. Barbara Jones will share her international experiences as a member of the IFLA/FAIFE committee and show how all successful library spaces share certain universal values.
Barbara M. Jones is the director of the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom and executive director of the Freedom to Read Foundation. Before joining ALA, she had a 35-year career in academic and research libraries. She has written numerous articles and books, served on state, national, and international committees, and led workshops in the United States, Africa, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and Asia--all in support of intellectual freedom.
