This year we are excited to bring you an innovative program containing dynamic keynote presentations, general workshops, an opening exhibits reception, luncheon events and more! Admission to the general sessions is included in your full conference registration. If you registered for one or two days only, the general sessions for those days are included.

Keynote: Isabel Hawkins, PhD

We are excited to welcome astronomer, educator, and bilingual podcast host Isabel Hawkins.

Originally from Córdoba, Argentina, Isabel spent 20 years as an astrophysics researcher and science educator at UC Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory. She joined the Exploratorium in 2009 to work on cultural astronomy projects including Spanish/English live webcasts from Chichen Itzá, Yucatán, on Maya astronomy and from Casper, Wyoming on the 2017 total solar eclipse. She has forged cross-cultural collaborations with indigenous knowledge holders, educators, and scientists to enhance participation by diverse communities in science.

CALCON18 simply could not happen without our amazing exhibitors! And the best part? They are here just for you! Make sure to get the most out of your time in the Exhibit Hall!

  • Draft a list of your organization's needs in the next 6-12 months.

  • Scan the list of Exhibitors and to see who might be able to help you and your library meet its goals.

  • Be sure to draft questions you want to ask.

  • Use the Exhibit Hall map in the printed At-A-Glance or CALCON18 app to plan your approach.

  • There are TWO receptions with great food, so get some sustenance for your visits!

  • It’s all about relationships, so have real conversations. Share what you need, and keep them informed.

  • Set an appointment with your favorite vendor. Meet for an early breakfast or coffee!

  • Follow your favorite vendors on social media. Vendors can educate you on the latest trends and technology.

  • Gather names and business cards from everyone you meet. You never know what connections you may need down the road!
