CALCON – Tips for Getting Approval to Attend

There is no doubt about it, attending professional conferences is a great way to learn, network and interact with professionals. Unfortunately, attendance can be expensive for your organization. Use these tips and resources to better state your case for attending CALCON 2016!

1.   Review the session descriptions carefully. List 4-5 programs most relevant to your position, responsibilities, or organization.

2.   Provide a detailed cost breakdown. Be sure to include:

  • Registration costs

  • Preconference costs

  • Hotel

  • Food

  • Mileage

3.   Highlight the Return on Investment. Offer to bring back what you learn to others in your organization by:

  • Providing a written report

  • Conducting a training session or brown bag learning opportunity

  • Sharing speaker handouts

  • Identify how the presentations you plan to attend will help with a current project.

4.   Cost Saving Tips

  • Become a CAL Member! Members can over $100 per person on registration (depends on membership level)

  • Remember the Loyalty Rate (Closes June 1, 2016) and Early Bird Rate (Closes August 1, 2016) and save even more!

  • Get to know your colleagues better and carpool or share a hotel room

  • Create a list of vendors with whom your organization currently operates, or may need to operate within the future.

  • Apply for a CLEF Scholarship. (Look for application details closer to the conference.)
